The Gift of Ordinary

A few weeks ago, I finished reading the book One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.  The premise is a challenge to live life fully right where you are. Conceived by a dare given by a friend to write down 1000 things she was thankful for, the journey to live life fully began.

My way of thinking has been transformed and I wanted to share it with the world.  What if, what if each and every one of us fought hard to find awe and wonder in the ordinary and mundane of everyday? What if we actually took notice of the simple gifts that are right in front of our eyes, but that we rarely see?  What if, we found wonder in butterflies, and ice cream, laughter with friends, doggie smiles, and summer nights?  How would we rock this world?  How would we rock our own? What if we decided to step outside of the disenchanted, wearied lifestyles of routine and repeated tasks and actually saw what was right in front of our eyes?

What if each of us echoed the words of Joshua Abraham. . .

Dear Lord, grant me the grace of wonder. Surprise me, amaze me, awe me in every crevice of your universe. Delight me to see how your Christ plays in ten thousand places, lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not his, to the Father through the features of men's faces. Each day enrapture me with your marvelous things without number. I do not ask to see the reason for it all; I ask only to share the wonder of it all.

Here are a few of the gifts I've found recently.  What are yours? You might not even have to leave your house to find them.  Leave a comment here or on Facebook and share with me and the world what you have seen.

The way Wilson decided to overcome her fear of water and dive right in, splashing, playing, and then looking up at me with an expression that said, does life get any better than this?

Little boys who tell me they love me.

And words from the lady who started it all.  Watch and be inspired.
