To freak out or not to freak out, that is the question. . .

Welcome to my blog. . . I was inundated with requests from people to send e-mail updates while in Africa, so I decided to start a blog instead.  How fun:) I hope you will enjoy following me on my adventures.

So, I am officially a little over a week away from my departure date.  Last night I arrived home after being away for a week at Christmas and was overwhelmed by everything I needed to get done before I leave.  As I was in the process of getting stressed out about my to do list with half a million items on it, my computer proceeded to inform me that the battery on my laptop was no longer functioning and that I needed to get a new one (How's that for a run on sentence).  I proceeded with only a small amount of panic to call the tech support line after which time I was informed that it would take 10-14 business days to replace it on warranty. I told the guy on the line that I was leaving before that and I needed to bring my computer.  He said they would put it on rush order.  So, now my laptop battery has been sent out the door with the friendly Fed-Ex employee that stopped by my house and I have no idea if I will have it back before I leave.  I sure hope so though, because a laptop that only runs on ac power is pretty much useless in a country that does not have a reliable power source, and my laptop is decently new so this shouldn't be happening in the first place.  Brace yourself for the technical description I am about to give, but with no battery locked in, some of the innards of my laptop are exposed.  Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't believe that the innards of my laptop and the dust of Uganda will get along too well.

So check back regularly for updates from the field.  I will post as often as time and internet connections allow. Don't forget to leave a comment, it will be nice to hear from people back home while I'm away:)

Happy New Year,

Jaimee
